Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) 2022

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) criteria are changing but will remain open to flat owners and people in rental accommodation.

The £350 grant from OZEV has provided funding for thousands of homeowners since it was first introduced in 2014. Once the new changes come into place for the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme on 31st March, the grant will only be available for homeowners who live in a flat or rental accommodation.

Here’s what you need to know if you think you might be eligible for the OZEV grant.

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme

Grant Eligibility

As well as owning a flat or living in a rental property, in order to be eligible for the £350 EVHS grant you must first meet the following basic criteria:

  • Have suitable off-street parking
  • Have not previously applied for the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme grant
  • Have an eligible electric vehicle (or have an EV delivery date)

If you move into a property that has an old EV charge point that you would like to replace, you can still qualify for the OZEV grant as long as you have not previously applied for the scheme.

Your property

This grant is only available for existing domestic properties and can’t be claimed for unoccupied new-builds. The customer applying for the EVHS must also be a resident at the address (checks will be carried out after purchase using the vehicle’s registration details).

It’s also important to remember that where necessary, you must acquire all of the correct permissions for your home charger installation. For example, if you rent a property, you will need to request permission from your landlord or management company.

Off-street Parking

You must have designated off-street parking in order to qualify for the grant. This could be either located by your home or separate from the property. In the case of your parking being located away from the property, you will need to prove that you have the legal right to park and install a charger at the spot.

The chosen location must be accessible at all times and must provide a safe place to charge your vehicle. Your home charge survey will determine whether your off-street parking is suitable.

Your Vehicle

The electric car that you are claiming the grant for will need to be on the government’s approved vehicle list. Most electric vehicles are eligible, but we recommend that you check before booking your installation.

Other vehicle requirements are that you must already have, or be receiving your vehicle within three months of your installation date.

How to claim

If you think you are eligible for the OZEV home charge grant, we will apply for the grant on your behalf. All you need to do is answer a few questions when booking your installation and follow the instructions received via SMS, once payment has been made.

If you would like to find out more about the grant, don’t hesitate to contact us on 03300 562 562.
